Funny man Fred Armisen is known as the co-creator and co-star of Portlandia, but he also has a musical side. Seth Meyers recently tweeted: "Here's the first photo of the new @LateNightSeth band," for his NBC show premiering Monday, February 24, 2014. Armisen, also a Saturday Night Live alum, will lead the 8G Band.

Meyers followed up with a tweet explaining "Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia" #8GBand is already trending, and we've yet to hear a sneak peek.

This month Armisen is releasing a collection of songs from his fictional SNL bands called "Hometown Heroes." These bands are called Blue Jean Committee and The Fingerlings, and the first single is due out February 18th.

He started out drumming for Trenchmouth, a punk band in Chicago. Armisen has performed with the Blue Man Group's and has an extensive discography collection from the 1990s. He has even written about music for Pitchfork Media and directed music videos. To those hearing the news that he'll head up the Late Night band, this shouldn't come as a big surprise.
