Frank Ocean's 'Super Rich Kids' is being targeted in a copyright lawsuit concerning Mary J. Blige's sample in the song

TufAmerica has filed a lawsuit involving Frank Ocean's Channel Orange track "Super Rich Kids" and its sample of Mary J. Blige's "Real Love," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The trouble isn't concerning the actual song in its entirety for copyright infringement, it's the fact that Mary J. Blige's sample was allegedly taken from The Honeydrippers 1973 song "Impeach the President." So it was an illegal sample of a sample.

"TufAmerica is the owner of rights in and to the recording 'Impeach the President,'" the lawsuit states, according to Rolling Stone. "Defendants have failed and refused to secure a license from TufAmerica for its share of the rights to use 'Real Love' in 'Super Rich Kids.'"

The lawsuit states that TufAmerica owns 3.15 percent of "Real Love because of "a consequence of a series of agreements relating to 'Impeach the President.'"

TufAmerica, who is filing against Vivendi and Universal Music Group for this case, has also filed copyright infringement suits against Jay Z and Beastie Boys. For Jay Z it involved his 2009 song "Run This Town," which allegedly illegally sampled Eddie Bo's "Hook & Sling," a 1969 soul song which the label bought the rights to in the mid-1990s.

TufAmerica also filed a suit against the Beastie Boys, unfortunately it came about one day before Adam "MCA" Yauch's death. It stated that the group used the drums from Trouble Funk's 1982 song "Drop the Bomb" on Licensed to Ill's "The New Style" and "Hold It, Now Hit It," as well as Paul's Boutique track "Car Thief."
