Tink has been making quite a name for herself since signing to Timbaland's Mosley Music Group. Most notably, she was featured on the 2015 XXL Freshman Class List and she's among the most recent to have her freestyle and profile released by the hip-hop magazine.
During her freestyle, Tink shifts between singing and rapping while throwing in an interpolation of Lauryn Hill and Nas' "If I Ruled The World." She reminisces on her struggles during her start as an artist and shares plans of making positive change in her hometown of Chicago.
When asked about her latest accomplishment, Tink took pride in being featured and acknowledged in an industry consisting mainly of men.
"People may not know Tink right now and understand how great I am, but in a few years, it'll all make sense," she told the magazine. "It's almost like we're telling the future. XXL is telling what's going to happen. And, yeah, I'm in it. For me, it's like a check mark. And being a female, it's greater value for me. Just being a girl in this male-dominated industry, we already have to work 10 times harder. To be on this cover amongst all the guys, it's like, 'See? Me equal,' ya know?"
According to her profile, Tink's debut album, Think Tink, is due out July 2015.
Last month, she released her remix of Aaliyah's "One of a Million." Timbaland, who has been very protective over the use of the late singer's music, defended the remix at SXSW, saying the "Rock the Boat" singer approved in a dream.
"I don't touch baby girl's records - y'all know that's Aaliyah," Timbaland said. "I was riding home one day, asleep. She spoke to me in my sleep and said, 'She's the one.'"
