Indian DJ Shot Dead For Not Playing Party Guest's Song Request

The public perception of DJs may be of pampered individuals who are paid to fly around the world and party as a glorified iTunes playlist. Beyond the sleep deprivation, flight delays and time spent producing records required to be a touring DJ (if they do it themselves), things can actually get very dangerous. One Indian DJ, Arun Valmiki found this out while working a private party at the residence of a local businessman in the torn of Bareilly in the Uttar Pradesh state in Northern India. One guest requested a song titled "Tamanche De Disco," which translates from Hindu as "dancing with an illegal firearm." After Valmiki denied the request, the guest was so enraged that he pulled out a revolver he brought to the revolver and shot the DJ.

Valmiki was shot and taken to a government hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to the BBC. The man who shot Valmiki was a relative to the host and reportedly fired several shots in the air while on the dance floor.

The video for the song features the hero flaunting a revolver, similar to the one used to shoot and kill Vilmaki, while dancing in a discothèque. The song is taken from the 2013 Bollywood action flick called Bullett Raja.

According to police, the guest has been jailed after shooting the DJ.

Taking requests at parties and sometimes denying them because some DJs have a no request policy or it just does not fit with the set is pretty standard. To shoot and kill someone over something like this is beyond ludicrous. Not that any song is good enough to get shot over, but especially not this one.
