Beck to perform on 'Saturday Night Live' March 1, coincidentally 20th anniversary of 'Mellow Gold'

Saturday Night Live is about to get a little dose of a classic "Loser." Yesterday (Feb. 13), it was announced that legendary alt-rocker Beck will be performing on the NBC sketch comedy show when it returns from its Olympics break on March 1.

The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will play host for the evening, according to SNL's Facebook page.

Beck's SNL performance will follow the Feb. 25 release of his new studio album Morning Phase. Led by the simply beautiful single "Blue Moon," Morning Phase is the "spiritual successor" to his 2002 break up album Sea Change.

More interestingly for Beck, the March 1 SNL gig comes on the exact 20th anniversary of his breakthrough, debut album Mellow Gold. So, perhaps we'll get a reprise of some of that album's hits in celebration.

Saturday Night Live has paid special attention to indie and alternative rock acts in its 39th season. Beck joins musical acts such as Arcade Fire, Kings Of Leon and Haim as a musical guest.
