Bringing viewers back to Camp Firewood for a prequel series titled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Netflix dropped the first official trailer for the star-studded cult classic reboot, revisiting beloved characters and integrating new faces into the eclectic group. An initial teaser trailer was released, giving the audience a look into the lives of the counselors and campers via a VHS-tinted filter.
The trailer begins with the endless possibilities of summer love and adventure as well as the first, dreary camp meeting that's interrupted by Paul Rudd's character of too-cool-for-camp counselor, Andy. After being questioned on his tardiness, Andy responds in the clip above, "Whatever. It smells weird. Who beefed?"
American Sniper's Bradley Cooper and Park and Recreations' Amy Poehler reunite as heads of the summer theatre program, demanding the best efforts from their not-so-promising prospects. The wide-ranging cast reappears to continue their summer legacies including Janeane Garofalo, Elizabeth Banks, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, David Hyde Pierce, Ken Marino, Michael Showalter, Zak Orth, Joe Lo Truglio, Marguerite Moreau, Judah Friedlander and Michael Ian Black, notes Rolling Stone.
The latest clip introduces The Skeleton Twins' Kristen Wiig as an illusive counselor as well as a fresh supporting all-star cast of Michael Cera, Jordan Peele, Jason Schwartzman, Chris Pine, Josh Charles, Lake Bell and "Weird Al" Yankovic. Hailing from the Netflix original series, Mad Men, John Slattery joins the cast along with Jon Hamm, who plays an army buddy looking to set things straight with the PTSD ridden cafeteria cook, Gene. The official Wet Hot American twitter has been counting down the days with tips, rules and advice for the summer as well as camper dos and dont's--all in a fittingly sarcastic undertone. First Day of Camp will see an eight episode run on Netflix, making its debut on July 31. The brief series stayed true to its origins, once again co-penned by Showalter and David Wain.
