Jason Isbell's new album Something More Than Free is a little over a week away from its official release date, but fans anxious to hear the follow-up to 2013's critically acclaimed LP Southeastern have an early gift. Today (July 9), Isbell's latest solo effort is available to stream for free via NPR's First Listen.
Produced by Dave Cobb, who has also crafted masterful country albums for the likes of Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton, Something More Than Free builds upon Isbell's award-winning Southeastern with the same amount of lyrical detail. With songs such as opening song "If It Takes a Lifetime" and the album's title track, Isbell manages to take portions of his life that are clearly deeply personal and make them applicable to any listener.
Something More Than Free was led by the release of single "24 Frames," which Isbell released in May. The album will officially be released on Friday, July 17.
