"Energy" is directed by French production duo Fleur & Manu, who have previously specialized in dance videos from the likes of M83, Skrillex and Gessaffelstein. Non-Apple subscribers can watch a cropped version of the video, from which you can still see Drake taking on, and pasting his head onto, several different personas.
Update: The video is now available for everyone! Watch below.
The many famous faces who get the Drizzy makeover include: Oprah, Toronto mayor Rob Ford, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West (from the infamous "Bound 2" video), President Barack Obama, LeBron James and more. Yup, it's that good.
Drake's partnership with Apple Music is now beginning to show its potential, as subscribers get an exclusive look at the new video. Apple is following the lead of TIDAL, which gave exclusive premieres to videos from Rihanna, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. The two platforms have emerged as competitors in the music media streaming world, both with major players on their teams.
Before the premiere, Drake appeared on Apple's Beats 1 radio show alongside Zane Lowe. He said of the video, "It's shocking, it's beautiful, it's a lot of things." He spoke to Lowe about being spotted in Serena Williams's camp at Wimbledon and about recording with UK grime star Skepta. He also premiered a new record, "My Love," from R&B duo Majid Jordan, on which he features.
