Tyrese Gibson has been busy promoting his new album Black Rose but one bit of self-promotion stands out...for shamelessly mocking a homeless individual while doing so. The video, which is still able to be viewed on the R&B vocalist's Instagram page, features the performer referencing the sleeping woman as a metaphor for the state of R&B.
"Is R&B dead.?? (sic) What happened to REAL R&B Fans??" reads the text caption to the post. "Can we SAVE R&B Soul Music? Are the days of REAL singers over?? Link in my bio let's make a statement buy the FULL ALBUM now."
Black Rose looks like it may open at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week but that's hardly the statement that we come away with after checking out the post. The video portion featured Tyrese sitting on a step next to a homeless woman, holding up a copy of his new album while he addresses the camera. "We got a lot of people sleeping on R&B," he says, clearly using the woman as a prop. To make matters worse, he later turns to her and says "hello?" dismissively, not getting a response.
It doesn't appear that Tyrese, currently going by the title "Vision Implementer" on Twitter, has given any response to complaints about the action as of yet. Most of his comments, including those attached to the offending Instagram post, seem to suggest that the current state of R&B is stagnant...and somehow his album is going to fix it. We can't comment on Black Rose as we haven't had the chance to check out the new release since it was dropped yesterday...but we'll be going in with a bad taste in our mouth, for sure. Maybe he should check out the newest album from Miguel...you know...since R&B is dead and all.
Tyrese has a net worth of $25 million. We can only imagine how much he paid that woman to appear in his advertisement...but we have a hunch.
