If falling off stage and breaking a leg can't keep the Foo Fighters from touring what can? Mother nature! During the band's Quebec City gig on Saturday night, mother nature was a force to be reckoned with and the Foo was forced to cancel their set just 20 minutes in due to inclement weather.
At first, the Foo Fighters showed no sign of backing down, hoping to weather the storm. "We're going to continue! We've come a long way to play this show," Dave Grohl initially told the crowd- but safety hazards came first for Festival D'ete De Quebec's 75,000 concertgoers who were about to endure increased lightning and strong winds.
Only able to play four songs, Foo fans were lucky enough to see performances of "Everlong," "Learn to Fly," "Something From Nothing" and "Monkey Wrench" before the storm chased Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett from the stage. Grohl, still cast-ridden, needed to be escorted by stagehands offstage, notes Life in Quebec.
"It's just not safe! We've got to take a break," Grohl explained to the crowd. The storm continued thrashing, eventually causing major flooding on the festival grounds, forcing the organizers to cancel the entire concert. "Quebec City, we'll be back... Mother Nature always wins," Foo Fighters tweeted. As long as the weather permits, the band will play Camden, New Jersey on July 13.
The Foo Fighters front man recently addressed the seriousness of his leg injury to Rolling Stone. "The broken bone is only part of my injury," Grohl said. "The other part of my injury is the ligaments and the cartilage is destroyed when I dislocated it. I had a physical therapist tell me the other day that it was basically like my ankle got into a 40 mile per hour car crash. It's not just like a sprained ankle; it's like an ankle that got its ass kicked by Ronda Rousey. It's just a matter of bringing it back to life, and I've always appreciated the challenges of life. I'm up for a challenge. I'll f*cking take it. And this is a big one, but I'm in it to win it."
Although the initial break caused the group to miss their Glastonbury headliner, Grohl was able to imagine a throne complete with guitar necks and stringed lights while he was "high as a f-ucking kite." The throne came to life, allowing Grohl to rock out from a large rock and roll chair, cast guitar solo and all.
