As previously reported, Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were taken into custody by police in Sochi, accused of theft. They were ultimately released without charges but were reportedly beaten during interrogation, as Consequence of Sound reports.
After their release, they returned to the streets of Sochi Wednesday to protest Russian President Vladimir Putin with their performance of "Putin Will Teach You To Love the Motherland."
According to The Guardian, Pussy Riot's protest was interrupted by members of the Cossack militia, who attacked the punk group with whips and tear gas. The incident only lasted a few minutes but left one member with blood on his face. Police arrived but made no arrests.
Krasnodar region governor Alexander Tkachev promised to look into the incident and prosecute the attackers and told the Interfax news agency that the views of Pussy Riot "are not supported by the majority of people in the region" but that he wanted to stress the importance of abiding the law.
