Pink Floyd's David Gilmour Details Upcoming Solo LP 'Rattle That Rock'

After unifying as the legendary psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd (kind of) for one final studio album, 2014's The Endless River, David Gilmour is equipped to follow up his 2006 solo LP, On an Island with his latest endeavour, Rattle That Lock.

The album's first single of the same name will be released on July 17, the very day the album becomes available for pre-oder via Gilmour's official site. The 10-track LP incorporates countless lyric contributions from Gilmour's wife and novelist Polly Samson, also including assistance from Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera who had a hand in co-producing Rattle That Lock.

As Gilmour's official website explains, the album's single "Rattle That Lock" "begins with the four notes, created by [sound designer] Michaël Boumendil, which precede announcements at French SNCF railway stations which David recorded on his phone at Aix-en-Provence station. Polly's lyrics were inspired by Book II of John Milton's Paradise Lost."

The cover of Gilmour's fourth studio album was crafted by The Creative Corporation's Dave Stansbie with the creative direction of Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis—the company responsible for designing Pink Floyd's most memorable album artwork, such as Dark Side of The Moon.

Rattle That Lock will be available for purchase as a heavyweight vinyl, digital download and a deluxe box edition complete with four Barn Jam films, two promo clips, four documentaries and four non-album tracks. Deluxe editions are available as CD/DVD and CD/Blue-ray packages including "two hardback books, a double-sided poster, a postcard in a dedicated envelope and a David Gilmour plectrum," the Gilmour site reads.

Gilmour told Rolling Stone last October that he'd head out for a short tour leg or "an old man's tour, not a 200-date sort of thing." The 69-year-old guitarist stayed true to his word, planning four North American tour dates in 2016: March 24 at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl, March 31 at Toronto's Air Canada Center, April 8 at Chicago's United Center and April 11 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Tickets go on sale to the public starting July 17 via Ticketmaster where buyers will also obtain a Rattle That Lock CD.

Rattle That Lock is due out on September 18.
