Tomorrow night, Seth Meyers will officially take over as the host of Late Night and Fred Armisen will debut his 8G Band.
Now, NBC has shared a video on their Facebook page of the 8G Band in action. The 13-second "sonic taste" clip shows what SPIN is calling "a driven-but-drifty, bass-powered brand of terse post-punk."
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Armisen talked about his and Seth's similar tastes in music. "Seth and I share the same taste in punk-rock music," he told them. "We'd turn each other on to bands, and late in my tenure at Saturday Night Live, he came up with this sketch idea for a British punk guy named Ian Rubbish, who loved Margaret Thatcher. It was a brilliant idea. I would love to have said that I thought of it, but I didn't. So, Seth went off to write the lyrics, and he nailed it. Nobody would have guessed he's got this secret punk living inside of him. So, that's our musical history."
News of Armisen's gig on Late Night was announced earlier this month when Meyers tweeted a photo of himself with the 8G Band, which features Armisen and guitarist Seth Jabour (Les Savy Fav), bassist Syd Butler (Les Savy Fav), keyboardist Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) and drummer Kim Thompson (Beyoncé's touring band).
