The music at Drake's annual OVO Fest was pretty excellent, but like with many other music festivals, incidents off the stage have distracted from the main event. Two people were killed and another three were in critical condition following a shooting at the festival's official after party.
"This is a sporadic shooting that did occur just before 3:30 this morning at 15 Saskatchewan," read Toronto Police superintendent Frank Bergen. "It's the Muzik Nightclub. A well-run event with lots of police officers in and around the area, culminating on a large evening event that occurred over at the OVO Festival."
The Muzik Nightclub is located across a bridge from the Molson Amphitheater, where the OVO Fest was taking place. The Festival wrapped up on Monday night at 11 P.M., and the "official after-party" (hosted by Drake) began at 10 at the club. Exactly what happened prior to the shootings is less than clear. Bergen suggested that it started at the bar but then carried out into the street as the after-party shut down. There are three different crime scenes as part of the incident, but whether shootings occurred at each isn't clear. The shooting apparently occurred at around 3 in the morning.
All that's for sure are the after-effects: Two killed and three in critical condition. One of the victims was male and another was female, and one died at the scene while another died upon arriving at a hospital (although the Toronto Police department hasn't revealed which was which). The police also haven't revealed the identities of the victims, although it suggested that one was in their '20s and the other their '30s.
The event doesn't reflect well upon Muzik, which had a man shot in front of the premises during 2014...during the the OVO after-party. We'll have to see whether Drake brings his party back to Muzik next year, or whether the club will even be open to hosting concertgoers from the festival.
