Morrissey, the famed lead singer of The Smiths, shared previously unreleased demos from 2009's Years of Refusal earlier this week through the fan site, True To You. Currently on the tail end of his North American tour, the iconic singer-songwriter's latest revealed tracks "allegedly date back to 2008," according to NME. The new additions to the original format of Moz's ninth studio gives listeners earlier cuts of "Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed," "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell" and "Something Is Squeezing My Skull."
The demos, although less polished than their latter counterparts, are undoubtedly still considered a godsend by fans. As many wait to hear news regarding Morrissey's return to the studio for his next full length, subsequent listens to his back catalog and his latest demos, along with a handful of remaining tour dates, should be enough to keep his adoring public content.
Set to tour the UK this fall, the iconic lyricist recently graced the headlines of the blogopshere after accusing Transportation Security Administration of sexual assualt at the hands of a security guard. Despite the Manchester native's allegations, TSA officials insisted that their officer "followed standard operating procedures," according to a follow up statement given to Roling Stone.
In addition to demos and TSA allegations, Morrissey's aesthetic is currently being channeled by singer-songwriter Ryan Adams' current cover of Taylor Swift's 1989, which, according to Adams, will be "recorded in the style of The Smiths." It can only be presumed that Adams' current project will introduce many of Swift's fans to The Smiths and Morrissey's discography for the first time.
