For the first time in more than 20 years, the Santa Cruz hardcore group Bl'ast! have come out of hibernation to release a two-track EP, titled For Those Who've Graced the Fire!. Members of the original line-up—Cliff Dinsmore and Mike Neider—teamed with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski at Grohl's Studio 606.
Grohl and Dukowski stepped up to fill in for newer Bl'ast! members, former bassist Nick Oliveri and drummer Joey Castillo. Both hail from Queens of the Stone Age and were in the process of touring during Bl'ast!'s recording time. The EP boasts a hammering title track and a one-minute thrash track titled "The Pulse," available now for digital download via Rise Records, Rolling Stone reports.
Castillo, Oliveri, Neider and Dinsmore are currently crafting Bl'ast!'s first full-length album since Take the Manic Ride in 1989. The group's original lineup released three LPs via SST Records, including its 1986 debut The Power of Expression and its 1987 album It's In My Blood. The former Nirvana drummer remixed, remastered, and rereleased that album as Blood! and mans the drum kit for the group's latest EP—a broken leg, a North American tour and creating music with supergroup Teenage Time Killers can't bring this artist to a halt.
The For Those Who've Graced the Fire! Will be available on "blood red" 7" vinyl as a limited edition on October 30, AlternativePress notes. The EP will be sold at the Rise Records store in bundles featuring Bl'ast! Shirts. For fans who pre-order the latest EP, an instant download of the two songs will be obtained.
