Roger Waters Announces Autobiography, World Tour Plans for 2016

Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd fame) has only played one concert since 2013—this year's headlining gig at the Newport Folk Festival—but the drought will be over soon enough: The bassist has announced his intentions to begin a world tour come 2016.

The iconic songwriter was long due for a break after his last tour: He spent three years on the road with his "The Wall Live" tour, which featured the theatric performance of Pink Floyd's album The Wall—an album written largely by Waters—complete with the building and destruction of an onstage wall. It was the largest tour ever carried out by a solo performer.

Last month he performed at the Newport Folk Festival, including a guest appearance from My Morning Jacket, but all has been quiet on the tour front over the last two years. The performer hasn't released a new album since 2005's Ça Ira, an opera.

The good news is that Waters does have some new projects on the horizon...although neither of them is an album.

One of the revelations made during his interview with Haaretz was that he was working on an autobiography. No word was given on when we could plan on it hitting shelves.

The other Waters event on the radar for 2015 is the release of the film Roger Waters The Wall, a recount of the aforementioned record-breaking run, featuring interviews with the bassist and others, as well as background on how the concept of The Wall developed. The film was debuted at the Toronto Film Festival during 2014 and will open in general theaters on September 29, but the catch is that it will also close in theaters on September 29. There's no word on whether the film will become available for home viewing after that, but it seems odd to put that much work into a concert documentary just to show it for one day.
