Fred Armisen and Bill Hader's Soft Rock Parody Band, Blue Jean Comittee, is Real

Fred Armisen and Bill Hader front the hyper local 70s soft soft-rock band from Northampton, Massachusetts, Blue Jean Committee, which has graduated from a Saturday Night Live sketch to a full on comedy group with a 7-song album set to drop this November.

Blue Jean Committee made its debut on Saturday Night Live back in 2011 with host Jason Segel on keys, Fred Armisen on guitar, Kenan Thompson on bass and Jason Sudeikis on drums. The song was called "Massachusetts Afternoon," in which the group describes a series of events only the good residents of Northampton could possibly appreciate.

Since then Armisen and Hader have left the show to peruse different projects, but apparently, this one always stayed close with them. Last night the group reunited with Armisen at the helm for a performance on Late Night With Seth Myers, the show for which Armisen is also the bandleader.

According to Consequence of Sound, the EP, titled Catalina Breeze, is part of a mockumentary series on IFC called Documentary Now!, which premiers this Thursday (Aug. 20). The show's series finale is titled Gentle & Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee," in which Hader, Armisen, Myers and a slew of famous musicians tell the fake history of the 70s soft rock group in true "Spinal Tap" style.

In the Documentary Now! trailer you can see Daryl Hall swoon over the ability Hader's character possesses to hit impossibly high falsetto notes. That's because a woman off stage always sings Hader's parts, but no one appears to be the wiser.

Drag City will release the 12-inch EP Catalina Breeze on November 20, which also features a custom etching on the B-side. See the group's performance below.
