Don't know Lincoln Chafee? That's OK, most Americans don't know who the Democratic Presidential candidate is given he's polling at 0% currently. On last night's Conan, the comedian tried to fix that with a song by Aimee Mann and Ted Leo set to Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy."
Chafee, the former governor of Rhode Island, is so unknown that he's not polling at all currently. Conan's segment poked fun at the candidate in an attempt to get him all the way up to 1%, using the slogan "Make Chafee #1 (Percent)."
"I'm personally not going to vote for him, okay?" Conan said during the segment. "But, I think we should at least get him on the board so he's not humiliated, it seems like the nice thing to do."
Conan ran through a slew of Chafee's policies including affirmative action, same-sex marriage, decriminalizing marijuana and switching to the metric system, concluding that his key demographic is "African-American lesbian stoners who are also CEOs of companies that manufacture measuring cups."
His policies as well as the fact that he used to be a Republican and he's a professional farrier (a master of putting shoes on horses,) were all fodder for the song.
"He looks like Chris Mathews on a juice cleanse," Mann and Leo sang on the program.
Billboard later published a statement from Chafee provided by his spokeswoman.
"I want to thank Conan for the attention. ... He's a good sport and I would definitely come on the show to help his ratings."
You can check out the performance below. Maybe it'll go a little ways to helping Chafee's campaign, even if you don't vote for him come 2016.
