The Weeknd 'Can't Feel My Face' Music Video Concept Accused of Plagiarism

The Weeknd's music video for his new Beauty Behind the Madness single "Can't Feel My Face" made huge waves across the Internet upon its release, even launching the song to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but was the concept for the visual stolen? According to director Mitch Moore, the video was almost identical to an unreleased promo he shot for Majical Cloudz.

Moore's music video never saw the public light of day due to "creative differences" between himself and the Montreal band, but the visual was seen widely by those in the industry. As Hypetrak reports, Moore now is calling plagiarism for The Weeknd's video, which was directed by Grant Singer.

In The Weeknd's video, Abel Tesfaye performs "Can't Feel My Face" at a club, in front of an audience that could not care less. That is, until The Weeknd catches on fire while singing his latest hit, and then the crowd goes wild.

Moore posted the "Can't Feel My Face" video side-by-side to the unreleased Majical Cloudz visual on his Instagram, and the differences are rather uncanny, down to a smiling woman in the audience. Though he called the creative theft "nbd" [no big deal], he still wanted to point out the similarities.

"Can't Feel My Face" is the lead single off The Weeknd's new album Beauty Behind the Madness, which is due for release on Friday, Aug. 28.
