Two of New Orleans' own, August Alsina and Lil Wayne, have teamed up for "Why I Do It" from Alsina's new album, reportedly titled This Thing Called Life.
On the second single from his forthcoming release, Alsina and Wayne take turns addressing the naysayers and those who question their motives in the music industry. For those who insists on clarity, Alsina echoes, "I ain't gotta tell you why I do it" throughout the track.
The single's artwork reflects the song's message with inquiries including, "do you really love the art?," "do you take care of your family?," "what motivates you?" and things of the like.
Despite his almost instantaneous rise to fame, it has been a while since fans have heard any new music from Alsina, partly due to touring and partly due to the fact that he's had a few medical issues. In July, Alsina announced a new album slated for a fall release and opened up about his eye disease.
During an interview with Angie Martinez, the "I Luv This Sh*t" singer revealed that he has a disease called Keratoconus, which caused blindness in his left eye and loss of vision in his right. He underwent a surgery that would prevent his vision from getting worse. Prior to that, the 22-year-old fell into a coma after collapsing on stage during a New York performance.
As previously reported, Alsina hoped the album would be released sometime around the end of August/mid-September.
Aside from "Why I Do It," Alsina and Lil Wayne recently collaborated on Curren$y's "Bottom of the Bottle." Alsina joined the Young Money rapper onstage during his Lil Weezyana Fest in their hometown as well.
No official word on when August Alsina will release This Thing Called Life, but hopefully the release of a second single means it will drop soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
