Lead singer Nicholas Petricca strutted onto stage with a red streak through his hair as the band kicked off the MTV VMAs preshow with "Shut Up And Dance."
The Cincinnati band came roaring onto stage to set the tone for the night's events with the group's hit song "Shut Up And Dance," which was up for Best Rock Video at tonight's gala against fellow nominees Arctic Monkeys "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High," Fall Out Boy "Uma Thurman," Florence + The Machine "Ship To Wreck" and Hozier "Take Me To Church."
Shortly following the band's performance Fall Out Boy was announced as the winner.
Walk The Moon is serving largely as the house band for the red carpet as they cut to LL Cool J interviewing Demi Lovato in the middle of the band's opening song. They followed that interruption up with another as Cool J announced the band's new single "Anna Sun" only to get a few seconds into the song before MTV cut to a Trojan commercial.
According to Twitter the band is just happy to be there "whatever happens" tonight and they are happy to represent their home state of Ohio.
The band has spent 41 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 with the nominated song currently at No. 10 peaking at No. 4.
