Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard is Thunderbitch, Drops Self-Titled Debut LP

Brittany Howard isn't slowing down this year. After releasing Alabama Shakes' second LP, Sound & Color, earlier this year, Howard is exploring different avenues for her music with a new side project titled Thunderbitch. The self-titled debut album is available for streaming now exclusively on the band's official website.

Members of Brooklyn's Clear Plastic Masks and Nashville's Fly Golden Eagle are reportedly joining in the efforts alongside Howard according to Consequence of Sound.

This self-titled album is a heavier, noisier deviation from Howard's efforts in Alabama Shakes, which tends to sound more calculated and organized. Thunderbitch is just unadulterated rock 'n' roll. Everything from the stark album art and track titles such as "I Just Wanna Rock 'n' Roll" and "My Baby Is My Guitar" to the band's censorable name, scream a refreshing mentality. The band is putting all its efforts out there and fans will be the judge.

The fun had on this album is palpable as you explore the band's website. The bio simply reads "Thunderbitch. Rock 'n' Roll. The end." The band is said to consist of the Thunderbitch herself Howard, "Matt Mann, B Bone, ThunderMitch, Char Man and A Man."

Nashville Scene alerted us to the formation of this group back in 2012, but until now, it was unclear whether we'd ever get a full LP or just some tunes on Soundcloud.

Alabama Shakes' debut album Boys & Girls abruptly launched the group onto the national music scene because of Howard's booming low-end voice and the band's style that harks back to the grooving blues tunes of earlier decades. That debut album reached its peak position at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, while the follow-up Sound And Color shot to No. 1 on the same chart earlier this year.

Listen to the short album on the band's website and view the album's trailer below to get a sense of the aesthetic. The tour tab simply reads "Maybe someday....?"
