August Alsina recently let DJ Khaled listen to his new album This Thing Called Life and he praised the project comparing it to classic albums by Dr. Dre and Nas.
The New Orleans crooner shared the positive feedback with his fans via Instagram.
“The structure’s unbelievable, man. Not lying to you, it’s on my mama,” Khaled told Alsina in the clips. “I like the way you sequenced the album. I love the music. The only time I’ve ever heard albums like that was Dr. Dre’s Chronic or Nas’ Illmatic.”
Last month, Alsina released a new single titled "Why I Do It" featuring Lil Wayne. The track serves as the second release from Alsina's follow-up to last year's Testimony, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 67,000 copies in the United States.
Until the his latest release, it had been a while since Alsina put out any new music, partly due to touring and partly due to the fact that he's had a few medical issues. In July, Alsina announced a new album slated for a fall release and opened up about his eye disease.
During an interview with Angie Martinez, the "I Luv This Sh*t" singer revealed that he has a disease called Keratoconus, which caused blindness in his left eye and loss of vision in his right. He underwent a surgery that would prevent his vision from getting worse. Prior to that, the 22-year-old fell into a coma after collapsing on stage during a New York performance.
This Thing Called Life is due this fall. As previously reported, Alsina hoped the album would be released sometime around the end of August/mid-September.
