Kaskade "Whatever" Review: 'Automatic' Song Goes Indie

Kaskade has released the next single from his upcoming artist album Automatic. The new track "Whatever" features LA based electronic duo Kolaj and is a different sounding track then what we have heard in the past from the American dance icon.

It is a bit more indie oriented then we are used to seeing from the main stage DJ, drawing heavily on the influence of Kolaj and their summery, indie synth-pop sound. The instrumental is soothing with its heavily reverbed guitars, easy percussion and soft synth chords that remind you this is still a Kaskade track, but there is a clear move towards a softer and more indie sound with this one.

The track is a different take on love, whereas in pop culture, men often times sing or rap about having more then one lover, Kolaj singer Teesa flips that script up side down. She sings about having a side-dude, "Is it innocent if you don't know the other man/You think that would notice, notice/You think that anyone would notice, notice this."

Sonically, this track would have made sense as a single over the summer, but framing the album to listeners, having "Never Sleep Alone" and "Disarm You" be the first two official tracks shared made sense to not confuse listeners.

"Whatever" is the latest single taken from Kaskade's upcoming artist album Automatic, which will be released in two weeks on Sept. 25. Head to iTunes to pre-order it now and purchase "Whatever" as a loose single.

Kaskade will be heading out on tour in October to support the album in cities like San Diego, New York City, Pittsburgh and more. See the complete details for his largely sold out tour here.
