Fellow Compton rappers Kendrick Lamar and YG (Young Gangster) teamed up for the new track "Really Be (Smokin N Drinkin)" off YG's upcoming debut album My Krazy Life.
As SPIN notes, the rapper has made a name for himself not with gangsta rap but rather with minimalist party tracks produced by "Rack City" DJ Mustard. On "Really Be," he and Lamar rap about why they need to drink and smoke to cope with life, as minimalist beats and synth play in the background.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, YG spoke about what he hopes will come from his debut: "I want motherf**kers to respect me on some artist shit. I write about the lifestyle, the culture, where I'm from. If you ain't too familiar you probably won't get half the sh*t I rap about. It just probably sound like some other sh*t, but I'm really talking about the culture the whole time. I just want people to respect that... I bring the lifestyle, the L.A. lifestyle. The Bompton, all that."
My Krazy Life is due out March 18 and features guests spots from Drake, ScHoolboy Q, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich Homie Quan, Jeezy and Jay Rock, among others.
