Dallas Green has seen great success in the past few years recording under the name City And Colour, and now he's back with a new album titled If I Should Go Before You, the title track of which is streaming on Billboard now.
As a solo artist, he's always looking for new collaborators and this time around, he has an all-star cast including bassist Jack Lawrence of Greenhornes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, Spanish Gold, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and The Arcs, Dante Schwebel, Dan McGregor of Constantine and multi-instrumentalist Matt Kelly.
He said once he started on focusing more on City And Colour and devoted less attention on his other side project, Alexisonfire, it became easier to form a band and write for this album.
"This time I found guys who are not only great players but became great friends," Green said in an interview with Billboard. "Now it feels like a band to me, and I honestly believe that I wrote all of these songs because of the band."
He went on to talk about how he feared this would be a writer's block period for him. Following his 2014 collaboration with P!nk on the album rose ave. under the moniker You + Me, he wasn't sure he had much more to give, but the newly assembled band helped him through his block.
The song itself feels like a solemn modern western tune the way the guitar glides through a Latin-tinged chord progression. Green said the song is standard love tune but has a duel meaning about the music industry and that if this were to be his last album he feels proud to give fans something he feels passionate about.
If the rest of the album is as good as this, I think Green will have a place in the industry for a long time to come. Listen to the tune over on Billboard and catch the album's other previously released single "Lover Come Back."
