Elbow has put its new effort on the table, and now the alternative rock band has gone straight to No. 1 in its home country. The group's latest effort The Take Off and Landing of Everything has debuted at the top of the charts in the UK.
According to The Official Charts Company, Elbow eclipsed last week's No. 1 album, Pharrell Williams' G I R L to nab the No. 1 spot on the British Albums Chart, even beating out pop favorite Paloma Faith's new record in sales.
The Take Off and Landing of Everything was led by the atmospheric, Genesis-influenced single "New York Morning" and received rave reviews from the likes of Slant, The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, helping to give Elbow its first-ever No. 1 album.
Other new releases, Paloma Faith's A Perfect Contadiction and Metronomy's Love Letters also debuted in the top 10, at Nos. 2 and 7, respectively. This marks a first top 10 album for Metronomy, who previously peaked at No. 28 in the UK with 2011's The English Riviera. Meanwhile, Faith is much more comfortable in the No. 2 spot, where her last album, 2012's Fall To Grace, also debuted.
Pharrell's G I R L fell to No. 3, followed by familiar British favorites Bastille's Bad Blood, Arctic Monkeys AM and John Legend's Love In The Future at Nos. 4 through 6.
Lorde's Pure Heroine (No. 8), London Grammar's If You Want and Ellie Goulding's best-selling Halcyon (No. 10) round out the top 10.
