Lady Gaga dropped a brand-new, haunting music video starring Nikki Reed on Twitter for her new single "Til It Happens To You." Along with the post to social media, the Artpop singer explained that she crafted the song "for people all over the world who suffer from painful life experiences." "Til It Happens To You" was co-written by Gaga and Diane Warren in preparation for the documentary film The Hunting Ground, which draws themes of sexual assault and violence to young females on college campuses around the United States.
The clip is portrayed through a black and white lens and opens with a graphic content warning for viewers before launching into heartbreaking scenes of abuse towards women and colleges and their attempts to fight back and recover.
As Billboard reports, Catherine Hardwike, most famous for directing 2003's Thirteen and 2008's hit saga series Twilight, directed "Til It Happens To You." As the video comes to a close, a message reads: "1 in 5 college women will be sexually assaulted this year unless something changes."
A portion of the song's proceeds will go directly to organizations dedicated to supporting sexual assault survivors, NME notes.
Gaga fans impatiently await her first recurring television role on the latest installment of American Horror Story: Hotel. The singer will portray Elizabeth, aka The Countess and hotel owner of the hotel in the fifth season of Ryan Murpy's FX drama. The "Bad Romance" singer has seemingly gone above and beyond in her role, committing to every sense of the character--she even threw a bloody pool party for her AHS: Hotel cast mates just ahead of the season premiere.
"She owns the hotel and she is sort of a very wealthy social doyenne who is consumed with art and fashion and people. She has a nefarious plan that is revealed in the first episode that plays out over the course of the season," co-creator Murphy said of Gaga's character.
