Nasty Nas has not been as present on the modern hip-hop fan's mind in the past few years beyond the 20 year celebration the genre had for his ground-breaking album Illmatic last year. However, the New York City rapper will be releasing some new material soon. According to Mass Appeal CEO Peter Bittenbender, Nas' long awaited Lost Tapes 2 will be arriving in 2016 after the "Dead President" rapper's final Def Jam album.
In a new interview with Drip, Bittenbender was asked about the Lost Tapes 2, which was first announced in 2010. "Actually, I love talking about it, because every time I talk about it, I feel like I'm helping bring it to life. Nas is working to deliver this next record to Def Jam, which will be his last [for them," he responded.
"I haven't been too involved in that, so I can't tell you when it's coming. Once that's out, then Lost Tapes will follow shortly after. It'll definitely be a 2016 release, hopefully earlier in the year than later. The music's amazing. It carries on what he built with the first Lost Tapes. The fans are gonna love it".
There are a few takeaways from Bittenbender's response. The Lost Tapes 2 will at last be released next year after six years of waiting. There is no indication of what will be on it, but the first one, released in 2002, was filled with hidden gems.
Also his next and final artist album on Def Jam will be released next year, before Lost Tapes 2 drops, which means there will be two Nas LPs in 2016. Get ready for the year of Nas.
