U2s' Bono Announces New Album Release Year, Says 'It's Really Atmospheric,' Drops Film Hint

U2's frontman Bono recently announced that their next album, Songs Of Experience, is slated to be out in the year 2016 and he said that "It's really atmospheric," but kept the exact release date vague and dropped a hint of a film.

U2 has been busy since their last album, Songs Of Innocence, was released over a year ago, including their international Innocence + Experience tour, whose concept was envisioned way back in 2009, in support of the album. They've reportedly put in a lot of work towards their follow-up, with some of the songs already being completed.

"We're going to get this album out next year; unusually for us, a lot of songs are done already. Listen to this." Bono told The Irish Times during dates in his home country on their international tour, "It's really atmospheric, it was written for a film." He also reportedly played several of the new tracks for the correspondent during the interview. Based on the band's habit of reinventing themselves over the years, it's likely to correlate to Songs Of Innocence but with a slightly different take on the music.

Bono said of the recent tour, "I thought last night's gig was great (the tour's opening night) and it was really 'there' because the script was there and the feelings were there... It's when you're confident enough to relax, it becomes even more powerful. It's like throwing a punch. There were some hip rhythms in there - it's the pelvis," the 55-year-old frontman said, exhibiting his traditional "we Irish don't do cool" attitude.

Their last album, Songs Of Innocence, mysteriously appeared in everyone's iTunes library unexpectedly over a year ago so maybe they're keeping the release date vague on purpose for a new surprise appearance, it remains to be seen if that will be featured on the big screen.
