Avril Lavigne has undergone many changes since her 2002 album, Let Go, was released to an appreciative skater kiddy chic audience that showcased her tie, wife-beater and men's cargo pants aesthetic with pop-punk for tweens. But then the eternally 17-year-old singer progressively changed on her following albums, doing a complete about face on her most recent self-titled album, Avril Lavigne, with the song "Hello Kitty." It was such an about face that a Brazilian website claims the Canadian pop-punk princess is actually dead and has been replaced with an imposter.
The track was vehemently criticized by Billboard amongst others. Billboard wrote on it, "The majority of the 'Hello Kitty' music video finds the Canadian pop princess parading around with four identical, creepily expressionless Asian women behind her, performing mind-numbingly generic dance moves, in locales like a bedroom, a candy store and a street." "Hello Kitty," is one of the reasons that the website claims that Lavigne is dead.
According to Noisey, the story goes that after her top selling album, Let Go, was released, Lavigne decided that being famous was actually not fun and decided to hire a doppelganger to confuse the paparazzi. The doppelganger's name is Melissa Vandella and the fan site claims that they became fast friends. Supposedly, after the death of her Grandfather, Lavigne became depressed and was later found dead at her home, but her family and the record label remained silent on her supposed death.
Melissa Vendella then stepped in to take her place and in songs like "My Happy Ending" and "Nobody's Home," she accidentally exposes details of Lavigne's death in the lyrics, record booklet and promotional materials. The website even comes complete with photos that examine the physical differences between the two. If you're looking for something seriously creepy to do today, you can decide for yourself if this is a case of R.I.P or just well-done plastic surgery.
