Mysterious Los Angeles-based producer ZHU has been on a tear lately, slowly unveiling all of the work he has been doing over the past year and half working with an eclectic group of artists from across music. Into its fourth week, ZHU's Genesis Series now takes a classic turn with a new collaboration alongside Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Trombone Shorty "Hold Up Wait A Minute."
The track utilizes the best characteristics from each artist. Trombone Shorty adds some extra soul to the tune and helps carry the melody in the chorus with their funky horns. ZHU adds his own falsettos alongside Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, who bring their vintage sped up verses and quality hooks to the tune. ZHU crafts the production with some guitar licks and a jogging bass line.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have always been great at hooks and the "Hold Up Wait A Minute" motif will be stuck with you for a long time. Good luck trying to get it of your head.
The release schedule has remained the same for the fourth edition of the Genesis Series. They unveiled a short video clip to email subscribers that could only be viewed on mobile and then the radio premiere was put online yesterday with the official release coming today. Download the track on iTunes.
This is the fourth track to be released as part of ZHU's Genesis Series. He kicked things off nearly a month ago with his collaboration alongside AlunaGeorge titled "Automatic" that tuned people in to the soulful and emotional dance music that was to come from ZHU. Then he paired up with A-Trak and Keznamdi to deliver a reggae-infused single "As Crazy As It Is." ZHU teamed up with label mate Gallant to get a little more soulful on "Testarossa Music" for their effort last week.
There is still plenty more to come including collabs alongside artists like Skrillex.
