Young Thug is clearing his name once again. The New York Times recently chronicled a day in the life of the buzzing Atlanta rapper and while talking with the publication, Thug dismissed any involvement in a murder plot and his beef with Lil Wayne.
Despite calling Wayne his idol, the two have not been able to see eye to eye since Thug and Birdman developed a close relationship and the "Stoner" rapper revealed his intentions to name his album Carter 6. He insists that he was only trying to pay homage to a rapper he looked up to.
“I’m not just being lame or trying to do something smooth," he said of continuing Wayne's Carter series. "I told the whole world you my idol, and whenever you stop I’m gonna keep going."
Aside from essentially copying his album name, Thug also planned to release his Slime Season mixtape on the same day as Wayne's Free Weezy Album back in July. Interestingly, Slime Season opens with the previously released Weezy collab, "Take Kare." The song first made its way to the Internet last October.
He continued dismissing their presumed beef, noting the fact that they both came up under Birdman's wing.
“Both of us grew up the same thing, the same gang man — Y.M.C.M.B. Why should you ever in your life even feel like we against each other?”
Thug also denied playing a part in the infamous shooting of Lil Wayne's tour bus in Atlanta. He defended himself saying, “I got millions to get, I’m not running around shooting no damn bus.”
In August, Jimmy Winfrey, the trigger man in the shooting, made claims that Birdman orchestrated the whole scheme and should also be held liable. Since then, the Cash Money Records CEO has also come forth publicly denouncing those claims. It was initially reported that the shooting was gang-related.
