Movie adaptations of popular video games aren't always the best, but we're still holding out hope for Assassin's Creed, based on the Ubisoft franchise. Starring Michael Fassbender, this upcoming film has a December 2016 release date, which leaves plenty of time for filming (which starts in the Fall of 2015) and post production. A new interview with Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet has us even more excited because he's drawing comparisons between this new movie with that of Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Batman Begins and Ridley Scott's iconic Blade Runner. Find out more details below.

It definitely feels like everyone tries to emulate the feel and success of Batman Begins, but when you think about it, can you blame them? Would it be so bad to have another compelling, gritty origin story? For the sake of Assassin's Creed, we hope not!
Baronnet sat down for an interview with French magazine Premiere, in which he detailed some comparisons between the two movies named above and how Fassbender, one of the biggest stars in film, jumped at the opportunity to star in the project. Thanks to Slash Film for the English translation (via IGN).
"[Michael Fassbender] accepted very quickly," the CEO explained. "And it was the only actor which we thought was obvious. So we started with the actor, which is incongruous. Even more incongruous, he engaged us with nothing. There was no script, no studio or anything. We told him we were going to build the project together, we have a huge brand and we want to make a make a film with references to feature films like Batman Begins and Blade Runner. That is why we tend to. He was promised that he could work with the writers, we would associate it with all key creative choices."
While the film is quite exciting, check out some gameplay footage of the upcoming Assassin's Creed video game, Syndicate:
