Former Scandal star, Columbus Short, has suffered his share of public embarassment after repeatedly making news headlines for brawls and substance abuse. Some reports even attribute the loss of his Scandal gig to his public outburst but, nevertheless, the actor is making his comeback. Short is set to star alongside Vivica A. Fox and co-produce in upcoming love story, True to the Game.
Variety reported that the former Thursday night "Gladiator" has teamed up with Leah Daniels-Butler in association with Imani Films, and Manny Halley, CEO of Imani Entertainment Group, to co-produce the film based on the Teri Woods novel of the same name. Also set to star in the love story is Independence Day actress Vivica A. Fox, Keith Robinson, Evan Ross, Nelsan Ellis and newcomer Erica Peeples.
According to Variety, the novel has been made into a script composed Nia Hill and it reveals the story of "the tumultuous relationship between a young woman who hails from the projects of Philadelphia and a crime-laden young millionaire who introduces her to his fast-paced and dangerous lifestyle."
32-year-old Short posted a short message on Instagram along with a photo of the upcoming film that simply read, "we out here."
Despite Short's rocky past, Vibe reports that the decision to have the actor star in the film was specifically based on his talent and work ethic. Although there's no word as to which character Short will portray, Halley believes that he's an "outstanding" actor and knows that he will bring all of talents to whichever role he set to play in the film
Halley initially acquired the rights to the book in December of 2014 according to a December press release.
