Pharrell has unveiled his remix for A Tribe Called Quest's classic track "Bonita Applebum." The remix is taken from the reissue of their celebrated 1990s album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. In addition to the new Pharrell rework, the reissue album will also feature a remix of "Can I Kick It?" by J. Cole and another from Cee-Lo Green for "Footprints."
Pharrell keeps the classic feel of the track, but adds some atmospheric synths to help make the track much smoother. The production is reminiscent of something that could have come from an older Neptunes track. He keeps the hook and repeats it even further to add an extra hypnotic layer to the track and strips away some of the verses by ATCQ.
Despite not going on any major tours or releasing an album, Pharrell has remained quite busy. He has been producing or executive producing plenty of music for other artists, including Snoop Dogg's album Bush. The artist premiered his new single "Freedom" at Glastonbury and then released it as part of the Apple Music launch.
Pharrell may be somewhat quiet on his own solo front, but he is working on new music from N.E.R.D., which he recently unveiled an unreleased song on his OTHERTONE Beats 1 radio station from the group. There is no timeline, but the group plan on making another album at some point.
The A Tribe Called Quest 25th year reissue for People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm will be released on Nov. 13. The album is probably already part of all most libraries, but it will include classics like "Push It Along," "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo" and "Footprints."
