Miguel has released his new music video for "Waves," and it is one big tequila-fueled party.
It opens with a classic shot of a bicycle on top of a refrigerator as Miguel opens the door and enters the fray. One of the first things we see is a beautiful goddess dressed as a Playboy Bunny while various people groove with bottles of fiery liquid. Miguel's peer J.Cole even makes an appearance.
There is a beautiful backyard with strings of lights hung around the gate in typical laid-back California fashion. Miguel continues to move through the party as people chug tequila and tear at each other's clothing. With a flick of a lighter, the video abruptly changes into a scene of Miguel shirtless in a galaxy.
That doesn't mean he leaves the party behind. The galaxy quickly transitions to long drapes of chiffon floating underwater interspersed with quick flashes of the extravaganza. The lights on the party stage circulate around the room as people raise their hands and camera phones in appreciation of the scene before them. Miguel takes the stage and begins to perform as the music slows way, way down for the second half of the video.
He then walks out to the back yard to converse with other people at the party, bumping fists and being kissed on the cheek by various women. "Don't stop / I wanna ride that wave," Miguel croons as the party continues, some people dancing and some removing articles of clothing. He then appears shirtless again against some mirrors, his flawless abdomen reflected in every one.
The climax comes when Miguel dives underwater with two women, riding the wave as the aforementioned chiffon drapes float around them. It then moves into a borderline-cliché popsicle licking shot.
Tthe crowd ramps up and Miguel whispers sweet nothings into a pretty blonde's ear. Complete with a backing band for his performance, this video looks like the place to be in Los Angeles.
"Waves," reportedly the singer's favorite cut, is the sixth track off his third studio album Wildheart, which was released mid-summer (Jun. 29). When asked which track he was most excited to perform he told Hunger TV, "Right now there's this song called 'Waves' that I'm just really into just because it could possibly be like a really big song. I feel that in my gut,"
