Since 2003, the Academy of Country Music Awards have been held in Las Vegas - first at the Mandalay Bay and then at the MGM Arena. Next year, for their 50th anniversary, they'll be moving to the big state of Texas!
But fans shouldn't fear ... the move to AT&T Stadium (the home of the Dallas Cowboys) in Arlington, Texas is only temporary. Once 2016 rolls around, they will be back home in Vegas.
Academy president and music promoter Bob Romeo says that he hopes the new arena near the Monte Carlo will be built by the time they return to Sin City and he wants to continue expanding citywide events beyond Sunday’s awards in the MGM Grand Garden.
While some questioned if a music event could pack the seats at the huge stadium, George Strait answered that question with ease when he sold out the stadium for the final June 7th date of his "Cowboy Rides Away" farewell tour in just 24 hours. As for seating, Romeo says that seating will be much like the Super Bowl: 90% of the nearly 11,000 tickets will go to the record labels and corporate sponsors, with 10% being available for public sale.
One has to wonder what will happen with the other events that surround the Awards show ... where will they get moved to?
