No surprises here... Adele's new single "Hello" has debuted at No. 1 over in her native England. On Friday (Oct. 30), the Official Charts Company announced that the lead single off 25 blew away chart records, besting Justin Bieber's "Sorry" in the process.
"Hello" starts its U.K. chart run at No. 1, and Adele did so in a major fashion. With combined sales and streams, the stunning track notched a collective 333,000 unit sales. 259,000 of those units came from pure single sales, but the song also made a new streaming record in the U.K. It was played 7.32 million times.
Adele's streams easily made "Hello" the most played song in one week this year. Previously, the record was held by Bieber's "What Do You Mean?" with a little over 3 million plays.
That isn't the only record Adele held Bieber back from. Her "Hello" also beat out his new Purpose single "Sorry" for the No. 1 spot. So, instead, Bieber sits at (a respectable) No. 2 overseas.
Adele's No. 1 in the U.K. is just the start of the total domination that "Hello" is expected to achieve. The song is also highly likely to top the Billboard Hot 100 on Monday (Nov. 2), finally displacing The Weeknd's six-week No. 1 single "The Hills."
Adele is not only on pace to have the biggest digital downloads week ever in American history, but the music video for "Hello" has also broken the VEVO record for the most plays in 24 hours. The visual beat Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood."
"Hello" is the lead single from Adele's new album 25. The new album will be released on Nov. 20.
