A lot of news surrounding The Voice's ninth season hasn't necessarily involved the contestants, per se, but the relationship between superstar coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, who are now dating in the wake of their divorces. Though the new relationship has had everyone buzzing over the last few weeks, the blossoming love has mostly played out away from The Voice set... until Monday night's episode.
On Nov. 16 on the show, Stefani and Shelton had their first instance of flirting, after Team Pharrell contestant Amy Vachal sang a jazzy rendition of Drake's ode to the bootycall, "Hotline Bling." Shelton, who frequently comments that he does not know popular songs on the show, said he actually knew the No. 2 hit single because Stefani once sang it to him on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Though Shelton was mentioning a sketch on a talk show, the audience and Pharrell burst out in reactions as the new couple just blushed and tried to move on from the issue.
While there was a bit of Gwake love on The Voice's televised broadcast, it seems like off-camera, things were really heating up. According to People, the couple were flirty during commercial breaks and Shelton even kissed Stefani on the temple.
And, before the show even aired, there was an adorable moment of PDA between the two singers. When Stefani was introduced to the live audience as one of the four coaches, she emerged onto the stage and rain straight in to Shelton's arms.
The Voice is in the middle of its live playoff rounds. The next episode will air tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.
