The latest album and track entries to the Grammy Hall of Fame will feature the unmistakable talents of the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, jazz giants Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis as well as singers Roberta Flack and Blondie, as The Recording Academy announced this Wednesday (Nov. 20).
The Dead's 1970 anthem album American Beauty will see its induction into the Hall of Fame following the group's 50th anniversary and Fare Thee Well Tour. A few surviving members of the "Core Four," Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart recently formed Dead & Company alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbidge and Jeff Chimenti, who have been touring North America playing beloved Dead tunes from the group's extensive itinerary.
Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled album, featuring fan favorite tracks like "Landslide" and "Rhiannon," will also be added to the Hall of Fame along with the 1975 album by Bob Dylan and The Band, The Basement Tapes, Reuters reports.
Blondie's Parallel Lines track "Heart of Glass" will be inducted alongside the wide-spread 1962 dance anthem "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva. Let's not forget to addition of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' dynamic "I Love Rock N' Roll."
For the jazz and blues portion of the induction, 1967's Miles Smiles by the legendary Miles Davis, Roberta Flack's 1969 staple album First Take as well as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald's joint 1965 LP Ella and Louis will all see induction.
In total, 26 albums will make their way into the esteemed music vault, spanning a variety of genres and rounding out at over 25 years of existence. Each record was hand picked by a Recording Academy-crafted committee, including hosts of the annual Grammy Awards. Each choice is thought to have either "qualitative or historical significance."
"These works have influenced and inspired both music creators and fans for generations and we are proud to induct them into our catalog of distinguished recordings," President and chief executive officer of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, said in a statement to Billboard.
