In an original trailer for Dead & Company's impending American Express Unstaged livestream of their third Madison Square Garden stop, John Mayer and the members of the Grateful Dead detailed the one-of-a-kind experience of performing for massive crowds dedicated to the everlasting tunes of the Dead.
Mayer, both nervous and excited for his new position of filling the rather large shoes of the late Jerry Garcia, brings fourth his outlook on being both a fan and a key member of the freshly formed group. "I feel like every Deadhead or Grateful Dead fan has a certain place they go to in their mind. And for me, I think the joy is going to be to go to that place I went to when I was listening to the music - but be inside the music," Mayer says in the clip below.
The rhythm section of Dead & Co., Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, further discussed living with their iconic music off-stage and out of the spotlight. The duo detail the need to mix-up their well-loved hits, causing them to apply revamped elements to each track. "Songs have characters; they have faces, they have personalities and there's a character in there telling a story," Bob Weir added. "Every time it's a little different; sometimes it's way different."
Dead & Company already executed their 2-night jaunt at Madison Square Garden, spanning an incredible line-up of classic Dead tracks including "Bertha," "Fire On The Mountain," "Uncle John's Band," "Friend of the Devil," "Truckin'" and "Ripple." Their third stint at MSG will be completely exclusive--the band decided to hold a contest which would reward some of its participants with a total of 10,000 free tickets to the show. The entire Nov. 7 gig will be available to livestream on the American Express Unstaged official site and app, beginning at 7:30 p.m, Rolling Stone notes. Fans can rewatch the Dead & Company jams for a full 24 hours after the concert is uploaded.
According to Jambase, a total of 9,161 Grateful Dead recordings are available for listening pleasures via the latest version of the Relisten iOS app, allowing users to experience recordings spanning an impressive total of 78 diverse artists.
