In preparation for their upcoming seventh studio album, A Head Full of Dreams, which is slated for release early next month (Dec. 4) Chris Martin got personal on the Beyonce and Blue Ivy contribution to their track "Hymn on the Weekend." According to the frontman, the song was originally inspired by a club track in the vein of Flo Rida.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Martin chose Beyonce to sing on the track because of the angelic way that she could belt "drink from me," which is the hook of the song. But in addition to Beyonce, Coldplay also added her daughter Blue Ivy as well as family and friends to form an intimate choir element to the track.
"Everyone who got asked to sing on our album has an important part in our lives," Martin said, "The 'choir' started with my two kids coming in after school and recording. We recorded Blue Ivy Carter in New York when her mom Beyonce was in the studio."
He continued with, "It comes from learning about Greek tragedy, where the chorus chimes in at times. To me, when we use that sound, it's to affirm what I'm saying. 'We agree with you, Chris. Keep singing."
Speaking of those near and dear to Martin, it was recently revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow will be making an appearance on A Head Full of Dreams. The musician and the actress ended their marriage well over a year ago but is clearly still a presence in Martin's life. She reportedly will provide the back-up vocals for the song "Everglow."
