The Foo Fighters eighth studio album is "almost halfway done," producer Butch Vig has told Kerrang (via NME). Vig, who is thought to be co-producing the album with Steve Albini, says the band is experimenting with challenging recording techniques similar to their process on 2011's Wasting Light, which was made in Grohl's garage.
"We've been recording at some different locations, but we're almost halfway done with the recording and it's going well," Vig told them. "It sounds different -- we've thrown a few things into the mix, in the recording process, that are going to give the record a different sound and a different feel. It's been a challenge, but it's also been exciting."
Back in February, evidence surfaced that the band had been recording at Washington D.C.'s Inner Ear Studios, Chicago's Electrical Audio Studios and Los Angeles' 606 Studios.
In November, Dave Grohl spoke to Rolling Stone about the album saying, "It's bada**. We're doing something that nobody knows about, it's f**king rad. ...We're [recording] in a way that no one's done before and we're writing the album in a way that I don't think has been done before."
No release date or title has been given for the album; however, it is rumored to come out this year.
