Following Miley Cyrus and the Flaming Lips' first stop on their Milky Milky Milk Tour, the singer and her "backup" band have shared the psychedelic new video for the second single off their recent album, "Lighter." Cyrus co-directed the video with Wayne Coyne and it's exactly what one would expect from the creative collaboration at this point: the pop star intermittedly smokes a joint between lyrics, with trippy technicolor prismatic visuals projected on her nude body that acts as a canvass. The new video for the Dead Petz standout track follows the equally far-out video for "Doo It!"
Upon the new video's release, Cyrus posted on her official Facebook "F*ck yeah! After our 1st show in Chicago (which was totally turnt) we loved seeing y'all singing along to all the Dead Petz jamsssss but seemed like this one was a fan favorite," Rolling Stone reports. "For all of you who can't be with us in Detroit tonight and of course for all of you who will here is the official 'Lighter' music video."
As Pitchfork reports, the spectral kalaidescopic video projections are the work of mixed media artist Jen Stark. The artist's work has been exhibited in major shows globally and is included in collections at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the West Collection, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and MOCA Miami among others. She is probably best known for her paper sculptures but has worked with other medium including wood, metal, paint, plexi glass and animation.
You may remember Stark's amazing stop-animation video for Dan Deacon's song "Believer" that came out back in 2011. Of course, Deacon is currently opening for Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz, so the creative loop comes full circle. Watch the "Believer" video below.
