Tyga has had plenty of time in the headlines lately for his recent split and possible reconciliatio, with reality TV star, socialite, and model, Kylie Jenner. However, while celebrating his 26th birthday, the rapper made the news for something entirely unrelated to his love life. Tyga stopped by Power 106 Los Angeles to discuss his career and his thoughts on the Billboard "10 Greatest Rappers of All Time" list. Tyga took issue with the exclusion of popular artists like Drake and J. Cole. This comes after Tyga and Drake publicly feuded. Tyga said the list would have made more sense had it come out in 2005.
"My thing is I think that you can't put Kendrick [Lamar] on there and not put-See, it's different because it's like I just feel like this is a lot of older people," Tyga said. "So, it'd be like the greatest rappers of all time if this came out [in] 2005. You gotta give Drake his credit. You gotta give J. Cole credit. As far as new...It's their magazine. And that's their opinion. Another magazine [would] put out a different opinion."
Tyga also discussed the importance of an artist's ability to recognize and promote talent. He mentioned rap icons like Jay Z and Birdman in reference to the fantastic artists both of them had unearthed. This ability to recognize the star power of a young no name is an important facet in what makes a "great rapper" according to Tyga. He explains, "Jay Z, when you look back at it, he gave us A, B, and C. He gave us Kanye [West]. Kanye gave us Common, Big Sean. Birdman gave us [Lil] Wayne, Juvenile. Wayne gave y'all me, Drake, Nicki [Minaj.] And then so on. You know what I mean? So, it's like who's really contributing to the game when it's all said and done."
