Charli XCX Explores Feminism, Women in Music in New Documentary: WATCH

Women are everywhere dominating the music industry these days, or so it seems. From Adele to Taylor Swift to Nicki Minaj to Miley Cyrus, it seems as though women are taking total control of the charts and their careers... but what's it really like behind the scenes? That's something that Charli XCX wanted to find out, so she made a new documentary about feminism and the music world, The F Word and Me.

The documentary aired earlier this week on BBC3 and hit YouTube on Wednesday (Nov. 25). Her resume for showing what it's like to be a woman in the music industry is credible, at 23, XCX is not only a successful singer in her own right but she also collaborates with other musicians as a songwriter.

The new hour-long documentary explores whether or not girls really are running the world, and it was filmed during her recent tour in support of her latest album Sucker.

From the start of the documentary, it's clear the XCX gets treated at least a little differently than her male counterparts. She is asked, for instance, whether or not she is wearing a bra during one of her many interviews at Glastonbury. She is also asked about her all-girl band, which is an anomaly even in 2015.

But, as we all know, XCX is one who loves to "Break the Rules," and even though she was told not to curse she opened up with "Sucker," which is filled with an f-word that isn't feminism. And, after the show, she was shown flashing her underwear, which dominated headlines.

The whole documentary is worth a watch.
