In a recent interview, Big Pun's widow, Liza Rios, addressed rumors of a past altercation between him and Jay Z that has lingered around for years. Although the rumor was once addressed by fellow rapper Cuban Link, it recently became the topic of conversation once again after rapper N.O.R.E. discussed it in an interview. However, Rios is now clearing the air on the subject and detailing what happened the night that Pun and Jay Z allegedly got into a physical fight that resulted in the Rocnation mogul being hit over the head with a bottle.
Although the late great rapper has been gone for 15 years, the rumor of Pun and Jay Z getting into a fight inside a NYC nightclub has managed to linger on despite others who were there already giving their accounts of what happened on the alleged night. In a new interview, Rios finally puts the rumor to bed letting it be known that while people from Jay Z and Pun's camp had a brawl, the two rappers themselves weren't involved and squashed rumors of whatever beef that may have come as a result of the fight.
According to Hot97, Rios detailed the brief run-in saying, "A situation happened at a club night. Both camps were there, [the] Terror Squad camp and Jay Z's camp, and there was an altercation between the camps. One of those guys from the camp that was affiliated there was an altercation between them. After that situation happened - [and] whatever fizzled out in the club that night whatever - it was another show date and Jay Z was also performing."
"Pun knew that Jay Z was there [and] because of the altercation between their camps, he stepped up to Jay Z to see if there was any beef or any problems. Pun went in with Cuban [Link] and a few other guys and as fast as they went in, they came out. Squashed any problems and it was all good."
"So this story about Pun hitting him with a bottle, I don't know where it came from, I don't know why they keep bringing it up or keeping it alive, because the truth was [that] it wasn't the truth."
Pun's widow continued on, "If it was true, I'd gladly say, 'Yeah, he hit him with a bottle' but that's not the case. At the end of the day, Pun, as well as myself, we was Jay Z fans... He's always been a Jay Z fan and that's it. I would appreciate if whoever keeps telling this story would just lay it down to rest because it's not true. It never happened, it never happened, it never happened, it never happened."
In the wake of Pun's death back in 2000 stemming from a heart attack, Rios has been quite vocal about the aftermath of his death and the state it left her and their three kids in. Back in 2014, Rios sued Terror Squad leader Fat Joe after not receiving the royalties owed to her as his widow. Pun left behind three kids, Amanda Rios, Vanessa Rios and rapper son, Chris Rios also known by his stage name, Chris Rivers.
