In an introduction to VH1 Big in 2015 award for Queen Latifah's enormous contribution to hip-hop, and music in general, Nicki Minaj made an inspirational and rousing speech. She said, "I've never met a woman that I couldn't relate to, ever. I hope that if I could inspire a woman to do anything it's to never take no for an answer. No matter what field you're in, go after your biggest dream." You can watch a YouTube video of this speech uploaded by a viewer right here!
Minaj has proven herself to be an influential voice when it comes to perceived problems in society. She gave a disparaging chastisement of an inappropriate Halloween-goer who dressed up as Bill Cosby with an unconscious victim attached to his him. In response to the costume, Nicki said "Our generation is so desensitized." However, Nicki's outspoken nature became readily apparent in an interview with The New York Times. When asked if she loved the drama occurring between her current boyfriend Meek Mill and her good friend and label mate Drake, Nicki had quite the heated, and righteous, response. At the VH1 Big in 2015 Award's ceremony, Nicki
Nicki, visibly angry at the implication that she thrived off drama, Nicki said, "That's disrespectful. Why would a grown-ass woman thrive off drama?'' before getting up from her chair and ending the interview. The statement was a powerful reminder that women are not Bechdel-test failures whose lives revolve entirely around men. Further, Nicki's reaction dispelled the notion that women "love drama" or thrive off difficult emotional situations.
Speaking of Nicki and her penchant to speak her mind, Queen Latifah, in accepting the award, said, according to XXL, "Opinionated, outspoken, oh so damn original," she continued. "Nicki, you not only broke the mold, you crushed it. You set it on fire, you threw it right back in the face of any of those fools who doubted you."
